Why We Don't Take Insurance

Why Don't We Take Insurance?
We get asked this all the time—and it's a great question. The short answer?
Not taking insurance allows us to give you better care.
At Pinyon Physical Therapy, we operate as a cash-based physical therapy clinic. That means we're not limited by insurance companies when it comes to your care. We can treat you based on what you actually need—not just what insurance will cover.
This leads to more personalized, efficient, and effective results.
What Is Cash-Based Physical Therapy?
In a cash-pay model, you pay directly for your care. This allows us to:
- Spend more time with you in each session
- See you at the frequency your condition actually requires
- Use the techniques and tools we believe are most effective
- Provide preventative care, maintenance, and performance support—not just post-injury rehab. That's right, you can seek our care to help prevent pain or optimize performance, your insurance company will not allow you to have that kind of care.
- Deliver truly individualized, one-on-one care every visit
If you're looking for the best physical therapy in Salt Lake City, this model gives us the freedom to deliver exactly that—without insurance limitations getting in the way.
Is Cash-Based Physical Therapy More Expensive?
It might actually be more affordable—especially if you have a high-deductible health plan.
Here's the breakdown:
No insurance?
A cash-pay clinic in Salt Lake City is nearly always more affordable than one billing through insurance.
High-deductible plan?
You're likely paying out-of-pocket until you meet your deductible—and traditional clinics often bill much higher rates to insurance than our flat cash fees. This means, you will save significant amounts of money using a cash-pay clinic vs an insurance based one if you haven't met your deductible. Don't worry, we take FSA and HSA and our services can be credited towards your deductibles.
Copays?
- Copays usually range from $20–$50 per visit
- Insurance-based clinics often recommend 2–3 visits per week for 4–6 weeks
- With our one-on-one care, most clients recover in fewer sessions, saving you both time and money
Quality Over Quantity
In many traditional PT settings, you spend much of your session warming up on a bike or working with a tech. Not here.
At Pinyon PT, your entire session is spent one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy—not an aide. Our advanced training and focused attention allow us to make every minute of your session count.
